TOURIST BENALMÁDENA

Benalmádena is one of the main tourist centres on the western Costa del Sol. The wide range of facilities and services is complemented by an international theme park.

It stretches from the foot of the Sierra de Mijas to a small strip of land on the coast. The town is situated on a hill, which means it has spectacular views. Further down are the buildings of the Arroyo de la Miel, where most of the inhabitants live, and finally Benalmádena-Costa, where there are many hotels and golf courses, a casino and a marina.

Strikingly original is the Bil-Bil Castle, a curious neo-Arab-style structure built on the beach in 1934, which is used by the city council for exhibitions and cultural events.

Also interesting are the Muro Gardens, a mix of plants and water designed by César Manrique.

Don't forget to visit the Butterfly Park, which is ideal for families with young children who want a gentler experience of being close to nature, with more than 1,500 colourful small winged insects. The park is located inside a Thai temple-style building; the blue tiles were actually made in Thailand.

A very popular tourist spot is the cable car, which takes you on an amazing 15-minute journey up to the highest point on Málaga's coast at an altitude of almost 800 metres above sea level.

From this magnificent spot you not only have the most beautiful views of the Costa del Sol, but also stunning panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada mountain range (white with snow in the winter months), the Guadalhorce valley.

A great place to enjoy a bird's eye view of the Costa del Sol and on a crystal clear day, straight into North Africa.
